Receive Text UpdatesFitness has always been my mental escape. I was bullied throughout school, and the sports field was the one place I felt safe enough to be myself. As I got older, my goal became to create that same safe space for the kids I coach. Staying fit allows me to do that, and the kids are what fuel my passion to keep going.
What’s your favorite way to train or stay fit? Before surgery, it was skating. I’d lace up my hockey or figure skates and challenge myself to learn something new every time. Skating laps gives me a runner’s high but is much easier on the knees. Post-surgery, I’ve shifted focus to upper body, hitting the dumbbells and freeweights at the gym. My goal? Full muscle-mommy status by the time I’m cleared to skate again.
What would you do with $20,000?I’d donate a sponsorship to the VJGK girls travel teams, girls hockey deserves more funding. This injury has taught me to plan ahead more financially, so the rest would go into savings to ensure insurance and retirement after my coaching career. Coaches don’t get the best benefits, but I wouldn’t trade it for the world.
