Receive Text UpdatesHealth and fitness fuel my passion because they saved my life. After struggling with eating disorders, addiction, heart failure during pregnancy, incarceration, and being told I needed a heart transplant, fitness became my foundation for recovery. Through proper nutrition and movement, I stayed sober, rebuilt self-worth, came off most heart medications, and no longer need a transplant.
What’s your favorite way to train or stay fit?My favorite way to train is through CrossFit-style workouts, lifting weights, and hiking, while always staying open to trying new things. I enjoy training both inside and outside the gym. In the summer I love boat surfing, paddle boarding, and sand volleyball; in fall, bow hunting; in winter, snowboarding, skiing, and snowshoeing. I also love Spartan races.
What would you do with $20,000?I work at a nonprofit treatment center that is also a minimum-security prison, and I would use part of the $20,000 to expand fitness equipment for residents, as fitness has been vital in my recovery and theirs. I would also support my daughter as she starts nursing school and invest in home equipment to train those who can’t access or afford a gym in nearby rural communities.
